Barack Obama's Grandmother Dies One Day Before Presidential Election

Barack Obama grieves the death of his grandmother

Madelyn Payne Dunham, the grandmother of presidential hopeful, Sen. Barack Obama, died today at her home in Hawaii after a long battle with cancer. She was 86 years old.

Sen. Obama learned of his grandmother's death while campaigning in Jacksonville, Florida, but did not make a formal announcement until later on the campaign trail at the University of North Carolina-Charlotte. Madelyn Dunham died just one day before the presidential elections, in which her grandson has a good chance of being elected the first African American president in U.S history.

I just wanted to take a moment to express my most sincere condolences to Sen. Barack Obama and his family during their time of grief. May God be with you during your time of sorrow.
