The Newest Social Networking Trends
Social networking has become the new rage of the Internet. With sites like MySpace and Facebook attracting millions of viewers each month, it seems that everyone has jumped on the social networking band wagon. New sites are popping up almost daily, but the most recent trend is shifting from simply keeping in touch with friends, to the development of sites that are more specific to grouping people of similar employment, interests, and passions.
Networking has been around for years. People have long aligned themselves with community groups and organizations which share interests similar to their own. Lions Clubs, Rotary Clubs, masonic lodges and fraternities are all forms of networking organizations. American Legion and VFW posts have served as means for former military members to share their unique bonds.
But in recent years, networking groups have become more goal specific. In 1985, Dr. Ivan Misner founded Business Networking, International (BNI). BNI is an organization where business people meet on a regular basis to share information about their individual businesses, and to share potential leads with other members of consumers who may have an interest in products or services offered by other group members. In 2007, this networking module has resulted in more that 5.5 million referrals being exchanged, and generated more than $2.2 billion in business for it's members.

Hi! I'm a member of 7 of the social networks listed here.
Hi Terry, great post, although I am a member of many of the social networks that you mentioned, I am definately more in favor of niche specific social networking, the contacts, leads and friends that I make with this type of networking are much more valuable.
Have a great day.
Nice post - yes, social networking is truly a powerful avenue!
Best wishes.
Sincerely,
