The Black Church and The Civil Rights Movement

The Black Church has been the flame bearer of the civil rights movements since it's beginning, and Christianity has played a prominent role in establishing a moral conscious for the civil rights of blacks in America. Many individual and collective efforts contributed to the freedoms we now enjoy as African Americans, but few institutions provided the united voice echoed by that of the Black Church.

The Black Church, established because of the necessity to create a place of worship separate from whites, became significant as an organized body where opposition concerning the treatment of it's congregations could be voiced. It progressed from a place of spiritual healing, to one of social and political awareness, creating a litany of protests advocating rights afforded by the U.S. Constitution...

Is America Ready For A Black President?...by Terry Marsh

Barrack Obama has emerged as the strongest African American candidate considered electable to the nations highest office. In recent weeks, his canidacy has withstood a barrage of inflamatory charges questioning his abiliity to lead the country. Putting politics aside, what are some of the challenges facing him, and is Amreica really ready for a Black President?

As the greatest industrialized democracy in the world, America has overcome the mistakes and difficulties associated with growing as a young nation. This country has come through a united struggle for independence, the pains of civil war, two world wars and the unrest experienced as a nation divided on domestic issues such as civil rights. At this point, the question should not be whether or not America is ready for a Black president, but whether any individual seeking the office of president is ready to assume the enormous responsibilities facing them in America.
